Crystal Beach

Crystal beach has the most unique history on Ontario’s own Lake Erie, a destination also known by the locals as the “South Coast.” If you haven’t heard of this place, please go look it up! This beach used to host boat loads of American tourists along with Canadian’s looking for entertainment that came in the form of an amusement park. You heard me, for over a 100 years a legit amusement park graced the sandy beaches of this Great Lake. With the park having been closed for the past 30 years, the town has since birthed a new identity with younger generations. A real beacher town, an updated fun, cottage, camp fire, canoeing, bicycle riding kind of hub is what todays tourist will enjoy. The recent bicycle trend includes bicycle rentals and yarn bombed bikes; locals will take old and decommissioned bikes, attach them to every telephone and power pole around town and then knit/crochet them, bringing things alive with colour. This illustration embodies the new life of Crystal Beach and as outlined in the design brief acts more as a logo for this rare town, versions pre and post yarn bomb!

“We have also begun a Friday the 13th event, where if you ride into Crystal Beach on any Friday the 13th, you get a free beverage from the local bars/restaurants… so anything bicycle related is always welcome.” Ashlynn Ross, Owner of Planks Canada
